India News:Ancient Ardhnarishwar Temple found in Mandi , 2009 , 18th February, 2009, News Incredible India A rare monolithic Ardhnarishwar Shiva Temple was found in the river beds of Beas and Suketi, which was buried in the sand dunes dating back to the 08th century and second to the famous rock carved Sun Temple of Masrur in Kangra.

Romancing the Himalayas, is an exhilarating experience. Whether there are the nomadic 'Gaddis' of Himachal, the roaming 'Khampas' of Tibet or the picnicing 'Gorkhalis' of Nepal..the song and dance of the outdoors, depicts a unique social life style ! After my marriage I was privileged by the blessings of Lord Shiva, Pashupati Nath and Dakhin-Kali Mata in Kathmandu the capital city of Nepal. This was the beginning of my spiritual connection to the Himalayas after being born in the Holy City of Haridwar. You have to be an utter non-romantic not to be in love with Nepal. Soon the roaming kitchen and the picnics became part of my life style. It was different, but I fully enjoyed the traditional dishes of the Nepalese community, which are also one of the lively community of Dharamsala, India. 'Bhancha-Ghar' (Nepali Kitchen), travels with you where ever you are. The open air of the Himalayas, the spicy tangy flavour of the freshly made pickles, are a totally different way of eating a meal...'Sukuti' (Dried crisp smoked lamb) with fresh lime and radishes can be stored and eaten anytime. Every time I would come back from work, I would get the smell of roasted 'sesame seeds' minced on the Nepali rock 'Silota', which formed an important ingredient for the traditional 'Aloo Achar'(Potato Pickle) accompanied with puffed rice, 'Chiura'. I don't remember tea time without it..I loved the 'Sel Roti', fried Chapati ringlets, which can be had with Kuckra Ko Achar (Chicken Pickle)!! ...We worked real hard, learned to roll our tongue in Nepali 'Pasal'(Shop), eating 'Titora'(Spice and Tangy)..really in all reality I never learnt how to be serious in Nepal...it was just like a never ending 'PIKNIK' !!
Valentine Specials, 2009 !
This was ages ago, we girls presented "Mr Prim", with a copy of John Donne, famous Elegy XX on his lady Love! We thought he would be embarassed, but we got a copy of DH Lawrence's..Famous Romance!! We did not know where to hide..on Valentine...but it made our day with 'laughter'. Not so long ago, my first date with my husband was on 'Valentine Day'..I remember seeing the movie.."Eyes of Laura Marrs", the rest is in a haze but, my second Valentine made headlines in the Girls Hostel..a walkman with a sentimental cassette letter..all the way from Saudi Arabia ! An American Group turning up with flutes on their trip to the famous RadheShyam Temple in Dharamsala..celebrating Valentine in the Country of Love as they called..INDIA !! But most memorable of all..just a year back when nothing was going right for a friend visiting us after a long time from America, suffering from a strange knee ailment and two chidlren to take care after the loss of his wife. The daughter a green fanatic was driving us crazy, while the son insisted on eating some famous potatao pancake of India! The ice just melted away when before leaving he presented us with 'anti-stress' incense sticks, grinned and said, " Given a chance he would still do my maths homework for me.", which my daughter thought, was a real bonus,.. and by the way the potato pancakes, just turned out to be simple 'desi tikkis'. Love, is a basic essential in any relationship,..with it comes along care, concern, shared laughter and sometimes the power of making difficult choices. It requires above all, the senseless heartbeats of the 'young', sometimes the seasoned wisdom of the 'experienced', to make it the evergreen season of our lives, as heartwarming as the timeless beauty of Simon & Garfunkel melody.."Like a Bridge over Troubled Waters". It is, at its best a matter of the Heart and is most valued there !!
It is lovely to see the school children doing their physical exercise with the winter sunshine in the Himalayas. The Himachal Govt. is proposing to upgrade the facilities in all the public schools with more emphasis being given to school academics, sports & extra-curricular activities.
Keeping in mind the 'winds of change', which have swept all over the world, today farming is no longer limited to rural India. The line is becoming thinner between rural and urban area, as the high town stress life demands the comfort of green environment to heal. You can do your own backyard gardening, terrace horticulture, organic farming and orchard reaping to make this a reality, a business and a personal interest. Some of the Agro-Institutes who take this forward are..The Institute Of Rural Management, Anand (Gujrat), Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricutural University (Haryana). In the Himalayan state of Himachal the Agriculture University in Solan and Palampur are home to many students and volunteers coming from all over the world.

The Himachal Govt. has urged the farmers of the state, to use the ancient methods of rain conservation and harvesting.
